Venture Lead – Partnership Development
His role at 1848 Ventures:
Torrey is focused on identifying, developing, and expanding relationships in support of 1848 Ventures’ strategic focus areas to accelerate new product and business model development.
What he loves about the work we do:
“I love the fact that we are committed to a combination of human-centered design and data-based decision-making in support of creating great products that will help small businesses succeed. I get to build partnerships around things that matter, and I can show you why.”
Which of our “How we show up” behaviors resonates with him most:
“I would say Trailblazers (can I be an optimistic trailblazer?). The idea that we are always looking for new or elegant solutions gives us flexibility to be creative. These solutions may be a new technology or product, but they could just as easily be a new business model or partner type which gives us a different market entry point.”
Partnership-supported innovation have been at the core of Torrey’s professional experience – from helping poultry farmers work with the Federal government after an outbreak of avian flu, to driving development of an alternative fuels corridor involving 19 corporate and public stakeholders, to strategically framing and building capability for a connected platform that led to first-of-their-kind products.
What he’s passionate about:
“The journey. I’ve turned over so many stones during my career that have led to highly strategic insights that helped to push, kill, or pivot an effort – and many have benefit down the road to better frame, understand, and approach future endeavors.”
Torrey is on his way to snowboarding in as many states as possible, and hopefully hitting every continent – though he’s not sure how to categorize an indoor slope in Dubai.
